First Nations Foundation was proud to convene the First Nations Superannuation Reform Roundtable, at the Koorie Heritage Trust in Melbourne. The landmark event brought government and regulatory agencies together to set a vision for fairer, more meaningful retirement outcomes for First Nations communities.

Supported by ASFA and Super Members Council, the Roundtable was led by FNF's Chief Executive Officer Leah Bennett and Chief External Affairs & Impact Officer Angus Crawford.

For many First Nations people, superannuation is the first real opportunity to build intergenerational wealth. But the people who shape how the system works can directly influence how First Nations people are treated at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives: in retirement, during financial hardship, and after the loss of a loved one.

The Roundtable gave those leaders a chance to hear about these experiences, and to think about how the system can better reflect the realities, strengths and aspirations of First Nations communities.

Ms Bennett said progress depends on industry and community working side by side.

"Only through honest, collaborative effort across industry and elevating First Nations voices can we enact the necessary changes to remove barriers in super," she said.

We thank Senator Lisa Darmanin for taking part and for her commitment to fairness and equality in financial services.

Many of the barriers First Nations people face in super are solvable. There are practical solutions, and progress is possible. But real change will only happen when the whole sector works together, consistently and over the long term.

This Roundtable is an important step toward a superannuation system that works for First Nations people, and we look forward to building on it.
