About Sunsuper

As a profit-for-members fund, Sunsuper is working to ensure that every Australian can fulfil their retirement dreams. We are honoured to have partnered with the First Nations Foundation to help improve financial literacy and retirement outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds with more than 1.4 million members, and our members are at the heart of everything we do. We recognise the many cultures of our nation and acknowledge our role in supporting diverse and inclusive communities, while ensuring all Australians live a dignified retirement.

In 2019, we joined forces with The First Nations Foundation’s Big Super Day Out to help more than 500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples reconnect with $9.5 million of their superannuation.

It was incredibly rewarding helping so many people
find their super, which for some was life changing

While limited community access and travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19 has impacted the Big Super Day Out for 2020, we remain committed to helping many more Indigenous Australians find, protect and grow their superannuation as a First Nations Foundation impact partner.

Supporting Indigenous Communities

Sunsuper has introduced a number of initiatives that respectfully acknowledge and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

In 2019 Sunsuper, pledged its support for the ‘Uluru Statement from the Heart’ and its call for the establishment of a First Nations voice in the constitution. We believe supporting the Statement and rightfully acknowledging the first sovereign Nations of Australia is an important step in our country’s journey towards reconciliation.

We continue to support Indigenous communities through our Dreams for a Better World grants program which provides funding to grassroots community initiatives each year.

We continue to support Indigenous communities through our Dreams for a Better World grants program which provides funding to grassroots community initiatives each year. Many of the grant recipients run programs to improve the lives of Indigenous Australians; including the Earbus Foundation, Puuya Foundation, Second Shot Espresso and Surfing NSW’s Indigenous Surfing Program.

We have also developed a vulnerable consumers working group to identify and address areas for improvement within Sunsuper. This led to improved internal processes for accessing financial hardship and alternative identification, further removing barriers for Indigenous Australians to access and grow their super.
